1999 GT Show

This my second 1999 GT Show in the museum. I bought it in mid June and it took me a while to restore it. I included a pic with it and my other Show since they looked cool togeter and so that people can see that I have 2 and didnt just redo my other Show. Heres the story on this bike.

I found the bike and it was 100% stock so bought it and I brought it home and relized it needed a few parts. The original 1.95 width 60psi GT Airbag tires were dry rotted so I put on a set of new GT 2.1 width 60psi Airbag tires since I didnt have any of the 1.95 width left.

The Araya rims were not in great shape either, the chrome was starting to flake off so I put on a brand new set of the stock Araya Super 7x 48 hole double walled chrome rims with welded seams and added new spokes.  I laced the front wheel with strait spokes and crossed the spokes on the rear wheel just like the bike came with stock.

The rear cog on the rear free-coaster hub was pretty chewed up so I added a new one. I used a 13 tooth cog instead of the stock 14 tooth cog, since I wanted the gearing to be a little bit higher. the 34x14 was pretty low and the new 34x13 is alot better. I also rebuilt the rear Taska freecoaster hub since it needed to be rebuilt. The clutches and the 10 year old grease werent in good shape but with the new clucthes and fresh grease it rides great.

I also had to replace the lower gyro cables since they were in bad shape so I put on a new set of the extra long Show specific gryo cables. The top gryo cable was realy long so I used a shorter one also but both the top and bottom cables are made by SST just like the stock ones. The original grips were worn away so I replaced them with a new set of the stock GT freestyle grips and added new screws to the bar ends since some of the old ones were missing and stripped. The chain was rusted so I installed a new chrome one.

I also regreased the stock USA made Dia-Compe Tank headset, since the 10 year old grease wasent in very nice shape. I actualy just replaced the stock silver Dia-Compe brakes with new black Tektro FX-15 brakes since I dont like brakes with non threaded posts and coil springs. The Tektro brakes have linear (strait) springs like the bmx racing bikes have, so I like them much better since I think that they are alot easier to adjust. Hopefully everyone on the bmx museum will like my second GT Show and since it looks 90% stock its a little different then my other Show and I had alot of fun restoring it.
