1985 Dyno Compe D-30
Old School Meets New School In This Dyno Spin-Tech Hybrid
When my son Alexander came of age a few years ago it was time for me to strap on the ole shin guards and give flatland another go. The problem with the geometry of these new bikes is that the center of gravity is so low. Doing a Funky Chicken or Whiplash wasn't like it use to be. Therefore, I decided that I would make an old school rider with new school parts. So I created this hybrid. I took the old D-30 frame, the lightest of the Dyno's, and added a beefy 3 piece crank, Xposure 990 brakes, Wellgo Pedals, & Moto 3D Skull Grips and combined them with my favorite old school parts (Dyno Pretzel Bars, Drain-Pipe. & Skyway Tuff II's ... But most importantly the Dyno Spin-Tech). I restored an old Spin-Tech to a beautiful Bright Green. I also found an old Mongoose Sakae Spin Tech Gyro Unit that has the open slit sides. Therefore, I combined the Dyno Spin-Tech top half, with a Gyro Bottom half, using the Odyssey Gyro bottom cable guide and a bright green "Blank" lower gyro cable. In order to get the cable to work I had to use a small drimmel saw and carefully peel away about 1" of the cable housing on each cable leading up to the lower cable guide. Talk about needing a steady hand. The result? The back brakes work great! All the pieces to this build fell together perfectly. I chose flat black as the main color so it woud be easy to touch up. But Powder Plus in Carlisle PA made it more beautiful than I could have imagined.
Last, but not least, are the decals. I commissioned Dynocrazy to give me custom Dyno D-30 decals in lime green with white outlines. The results are awesome!
