1983 CCM Supercycle Bobcat
1983 Supercycle Bobcat, made in Canada by CCM
This was my first bmx back in 1985. A Canadian made CCM Supercycle Bobcat. I rode this bike for many years.
Recently I decided to re-build it up but almost all of the original parts had broken, cracked or were replaced with others.
SERIAL NUMBER
Wikipedia says that CCM declared bancruptcy in 1983 and was purchached by Procycle in Quebec. The sticker on the downtube has "71-1288" which is the model number from CTC.
This model is indeed in the 1985 CTC catalog, however, one of the serial numbers (right dropout) is stamped "TH83 12" so I can assume that the frame was made in December '83 (pre-bancruptcy) and sold through to 1986 until the stock ran out.
The frame design is an almost exact replica of the 80-83 Redline MXII as you can see in some of the ones posted here. The only noticiable difference is a small plate at the BB to support a kick-stand.
I got some new school and mid-school parts to put it together but I will try to find original/replica or at least era correct parts to make it as original as possible. The chrome also needs some cleaning, it has some small surface rust.
Rebuild parts list:
- GT early 90's freestyle fork
- chrome NOS Nitto v-bars!
- original SR-stem - (polished it up to a nice mirror finish)
- new FIT OG white grips - (looking for original Faun F1 black/gray grips)
- 1997 Haro Fusion 3-piece chrome cranks
- dx style cheap plastic pedals - (looking for black MKS rat pedals)
- Sugino chainwheel - (looking for a nice redline chainwheel)
- original KMC chain
- Alex 36h rims w/black spokes and red unsealed hubs
- Kenda K-Rad tires and tubes 1.95 & 2.125
- Iscaselle white plastic seat
- chrome layback seat post unkown and TNT 2 bolt clamp
- I have dia-compe bulldog brakes but I want to put on a coaster brake.
