1985 Akisu
Saving an original Akisu.
1985 Akisu 20" Bmx. Takagi Cranks. Tapered down tube. Stock tear-drop forks. Mx brakes. Original 1 pc cranks, smooth as butter, probably Takagi. Vintage Blue anonized stem and rims. Vintage White Swallow 20 x 2.125 dirt tires. Vintage GT hard plastic seat. Took some time and effort, but located & bought back the CW Racing Pro Bars that were previously on the bike, which are superbly wide and comfortable.
My veteran bike mechanic friend came across this in a trade, for some hefty pricey road parts/wheels/frame. Since the original decals were missing we only had a serial number stamped on frame to go off of.. and what the frame looked like. The previous owner thought it was an Acusa, but thanks to the Bmxmuseum, it had almost the same exact frame, gusset, seatpost clamp and rear dropouts and forks as the akisus, and when we asked him, he said that's it, AKISU.
I learned he was going to dump and sell it cheap, i came over and the bike really grew on me. He threw on some '90s Haro Fusion bars and Cheapy white grips, that just didn't really go with the bike. I saved up some extra money and bought the (pictured) CW Pro bars and checkerboard grips for an extra $100. It cleaned up easily with mild steel wool, and tune-up.
Amazing rare bike, even more amazing to ride. With CW Pro Bars, laid back seat post, it's ultra comfortable, feels you're flying around on a mini motorbike. Cranks are smooth as butter, tapered down tube and tear drop forks and large size 2.125 tires all come together for smooth and radical ride. I've tried other tires and rims, but nothing looks and rides better than OEM. It always turns heads, and was leading the pack of old schoolers on last 2nd Saturday bike run in Sacramento, CA where i'm from. Let me know what you think --- Brian.
